A wide-flange beam frames into the side of an HSS or pipe column sized per plan. The connection consists of a shear plate welded to the column face and bolted to the beam web with three vertical bolts at a three-inch spacing. Minimum AISC clearances are maintained above and below the connection, with a one-half-inch clearance specified from the column center. Bolts, weld sizes, and plate details are referenced to schedule and detail 1/S5.40.1.
