A concrete slab over metal deck is supported by a wide-flange steel beam, with the metal deck ribs running parallel and centered on the beam flange. Headed shear studs are welded through the metal deck into the top flange of the beam to develop composite action. Deck reinforcement bars are placed within the concrete topping per structural schedules.
