Continuity plates and stiffener plates are welded to a wide-flange steel member. The continuity plate thickness is sized to the beam flange thickness plus one-eighth inch minimum. Fillet welds of five-eighths times the continuity plate thickness attach the plates on three sides. Stiffener plate sizes are specified for continuity plates, main plates, and the web-to-flange z-region.
