A new pipe post sized per plan connects between an existing beam and a new beam positioned along the grid line. A 1/2 inch by 5 inch by 0 foot 5 inch plate is welded to the top of the pipe post with a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld and secured to the new beam flange. Three-eighths inch thick stiffener plates are centered on each side of the post at the existing beam connection and welded with one-quarter inch fillet welds on three sides typical. Five-sixteenths inch field welds with field weld symbols connect the pipe post to the plates at both ends.
