Grade 50 continuity plates are positioned between the flanges of a steel column and sized according to the specified formula of three-quarters of the plate thickness rounded up to the nearest one-sixteenth of an inch. Specific dimensioning guidelines indicate offsets of k1 plus one-half inch and k plus one and one-half inches relative to the column geometry. Fillet welds secure the plates to the column web and flanges in both strong and weak axis configurations.
