Steel beams sized per plan connect to a supporting structural steel beam via welded and bolted flange plates. The top and bottom beam flanges receive complete joint penetration welds with backing bars, supplemented by backing plates designated as P.P. with a one-sixteenth inch thickness gap. Flange connection plates are secured with three pairs of high-strength bolts on each side of the vertical joint. Field welding and bolt tightening adhere to structural framing plans.
