A steel column terminates below the floor level where it does not extend above the slab at similar conditions. Concrete poured over a metal floor deck surrounds the upper flange of the supporting steel beams. Framing steel beams connect to the column web and flanges using bolted shear tab connections with multiple rows of bolts. The column shaft continues downward while the beams frame into the connection plates.
