A three-eighths-inch steel cap plate sits atop a hollow structural section post and is secured with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld. A steel beam connects to the cap plate using a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld. The cap plate is secured to the HSS post with an additional three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld.
