An HSS post bears onto a steel base plate sized per the column schedule, secured with two three-quarter-inch diameter F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods featuring heavy hex nuts or rod heads. A three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld connects the post along the long sides of the base plate, leaving the short sides unwelded. A finished bearing surface is provided at the bottom of the column end and top of the plate. The assembly sits on a minimum one-inch layer of nonshrink grout over a concrete foundation, maintaining specified edge distances and anchor rod projections.
