This structural detail establishes geometric clearance requirements and slope limits for utility trenches excavated adjacent to concrete footings or pad footings. Pipes placed in backfilled trenches must remain above a 2 to 1 sloped line extending down and away from the footing bottom edge. A restricted zone extending four times the footing width (4xb) out from the footing prohibits parallel pipes within eighteen inches of the face. Where deeper trenches are required within this zone, the footing must be deepened using lean concrete down to the required trench invert elevation.
