A hollow structural section column receives a framing beam and diagonal brace with connecting plates and welds. A three-eighths inch cap plate is welded to the top of the column with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds. A three-eighths inch plate connects the beam to the column with welds on both near side and far side. A half-inch gusset plate is welded to the column and beam underside, connecting to the diagonal brace with quarter-inch fillet welds on each side. A working point is established at the intersection of the member centerlines with a one-foot minimum dimension to the brace connection.
