A beam bears on a column notch with three five-eighths inch by seven-inch smooth A304 stainless steel pins centered in the column. A three-eighths-inch plate is used with countersunk and plugged fasteners typical on each side. Glued-laminated timber beams bear directly on the column notch, maintaining a typical quarter-inch clearance.
