A hollow structural section beam frames into a hollow structural section column with stiffener plates welded to each side of the beam web. A base plate sits atop the column and supports the concrete on metal deck assembly above. The beam top flange is coped to clear the base plate, leaving a two-inch minimum clearance. A quarter-inch fillet weld is specified on both the near side and far side of the beam connection, while the stiffener plates receive quarter-inch welds along three sides.
