A wide-flange beam connects to a supporting girder web via an ASTM A572-50 steel shear plate welded on three sides with thickness and sizing governed by the structural schedule. The connection utilizes one-and-one-eighth-inch diameter A490-N bolts spaced at three inches vertically with edge distances and set-backs referenced from the beam centerline. An optional pad plate of ASTM A572-50 steel is specified on the opposite side as required by schedule. The supported beam is coped as needed to clear the flange of the supporting member while maintaining the required "T" dimension match.
