A slab on grade construction joint detail featuring smooth round steel bar dowels spaced at twelve inches on center across the joint, with dowels greased on one side only to allow horizontal movement. A tooled joint is formed at the top surface centered over the joint. The detail includes an accompanying construction joint dowel schedule specifying dowel diameters and lengths corresponding to three slab thickness ranges: three-quarters inch diameter by ten inches long for slabs up to six inches thick, one-inch diameter by thirteen inches long for slabs between six and eight inches thick, and one-and-one-quarter inch diameter by fifteen inches long for slabs greater than eight inches thick. Slab thickness and reinforcing are sized per plan.
