A vertical hollow structural section member connects to a horizontal hollow structural section member using three-quarter inch connection plates at the top and bottom. A one-half inch cap plate is welded typical with quarter-inch fillet welds. Dimensions indicate typical clearances of one inch and eight inches with a maximum half-inch gap.
