A structural steel column connects to a thick base plate welded with a complete joint penetration weld and double bevel groove weld. The base plate bears on the top of the foundation and is secured by multiple anchor rods extending thirty-two inches down into the concrete. These anchor rods terminate at a lower embed plate sized to match the base plate. A concrete slab pours above the foundation level, surrounding the lower portion of the steel column.
