A steel column connects to a three-quarters-inch thick steel base plate secured with four three-quarters-inch diameter ASTM A325 bolts. The base plate bears on a concrete topping over a steel deck, supported by a steel beam equipped with beam web stiffener plates on each side. A blockout in the concrete over the steel deck allows for column installation before being poured solid. A typical three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld connects the column to the base plate.
