Open web steel joists are reinforced at concentrated load locations exceeding six inches from panel points by adding L2x2x3/16 minimum diagonal web members welded typically with three-sixteenths inch welds. Adjacent steel joists are connected using a channel chord tie and continuous bottom plates as detailed on plan. Splice connections between joists utilize a one-quarter by twelve inch by one foot zero inch bottom splice plate centered over the joint with a three-eighths by two and one-half inch by one foot zero inch strap plate at the top cord.
