A structural steel gusset plate connects to a base plate with a supporting stiffener plate. The gusset plate features a bolted connection pattern and welds to the base plate and stiffener using five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides top and bottom typically. A gusset support plate requires a one-half-inch minimum thickness for gusset thicknesses under two inches, and a three-quarter-inch minimum thickness for gusset thicknesses of two inches or greater. The working point locates at the top of the base plate with specific dimensional limits for the gusset height and base length.
