A structural steel beam frames into a column using a three-quarter-inch thick cap plate welded to the column support. The cap plate width is sized one inch larger than the column or matches the beam flange width, whichever is larger, and is fastened with four three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the column, aligning with the column flanges using three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides.
