A wide-flange steel column and diagonal core brace connect to a heavy base plate assembly anchored atop a reinforced concrete footing. Ten two-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 105 anchor bolts secure the base plate over a two-inch layer of non-shrink grout and a leveling nut assembly. A robust gusset plate welded to the column flange and base plate ties into the diagonal brace at a designated work point. Half-inch plate stiffeners are welded to the column web and flanges with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds on three sides. Complete joint penetration welds connect the column flanges directly to the base plate.
