A diagonal brace connects via a gusset plate welded to an HSS column and a base plate anchored to a concrete foundation pad or grade beam with hooked anchor rods and a grout layer. A gusset plate welds to the column and base plate per the brace manufacturer specifications using five-sixteenth inch fillet welds on three sides typically, while internal stiffener plates reinforce the column web. Drag rebar in the concrete tie beam laps with bars welded to the gusset plate, with alternating bar connections across the joint. The column base sits on a thickened foundation with four inches minimum clear cover over the embedded anchor assembly.
