Required excavation limits and slope ratios apply to a utility trench running parallel to a foundation footing. A minimum ten-foot horizontal clearance is maintained from the footing face to the trench edge. The bottom of the trench excavation must not extend below the sloped plane defined by a two-to-one slope ratio originating from the base of the footing. Backfill is placed per the soils report requirements. The contractor remains responsible for shoring, sheathing, and maintaining excavation sides to prevent cave-ins until backfill is complete.
