A continuous wide-flange beam rests above a hollow structural section column, separated by a one-inch clearance space and a quarter-inch shim. The connection uses an L8x4x1/2 angle on each side of the column, featuring two one-and-a-half-inch vertical short slot holes fastened with two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts at the bottom of the slots. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the beam web with three-sixteenths-inch welds on three sides. The seat angles are secured with typical five-sixteenths-inch welds.
