This connection detail joins steel framing beams to a structural steel column flange using welded moment connections with bolted web shear tabs and continuity plates. The top and bottom beam flanges attach to the column via complete joint penetration welds typically specified at the column face. Vertical plate stiffeners welded to the beam webs and flanges provide local reinforcement with plate thicknesses determined by the beam web thickness plus one-eighth inch. Horizontal continuity plates match the flange thickness of the largest intersecting beam plus one-quarter inch, with a sloping continuity plate option permitted when no beams are moment connected to the column web and dimension X is less than or equal to three inches. Erection bolts secure the beam webs to the column-attached shear tabs prior to final welding.
