A splice connection for hollow structural sections sized per plan utilizes two 1-inch by 1-3/4-inch by 1'-6" long steel plates welded to each side of the hollow structural section with 1/4-inch fillet welds of varying lengths. A maximum 1/2-inch gap is permitted at the splice where it occurs. Section C-C provides the profile of the hollow structural section with the splice plates attached to each side.
