An open web steel joist bears on a supporting steel beam through a three-quarter-inch bearing plate and is coordinated in location and connection with the joist supplier. A steel column transfers load through a three-quarter-inch steel base plate secured with four seven-eighth-inch diameter A325 bolts. A 3/8-inch stiffener plate is welded to the supporting steel beam with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. A perpendicular steel beam connects to the column web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds and a bolted shear connection.
