Steel columns bearing on wide flange beams utilize a three-quarter-inch base plate secured with four three-quarter-inch diameter A325N bolts. One-half-inch stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the beam web, sized in width to match the beam and detailed with three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. The column size and steel section are determined per plan or structural schedule. Minimum edge distances and standard bolt gauges comply with AISC specifications.
