An angle or bent plate measuring three by three by one-quarter inches connects to the top flange of a structural steel beam. A one-quarter-inch gusset plate spaced at a maximum of two feet on center is welded beneath the flange with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld on two or three sides. Fillet welds of three-sixteenths inch size are specified with typical spacing of twelve inches on center and four inches at the ends. Clearances maintain a one-quarter-inch minimum to one-inch maximum distance from the flange edge, with a two-inch vertical dimension specified.
