A new hollow structural section brace connects to the intersection of two existing wide flange beams using a split HSS member passing over a half-inch thick steel plate. The connection detail applies to the intersection of two existing wide flange beams with similar configurations for existing six-inch and sixteen-inch pipes. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths and one-quarter inch sizes secure the brace and plate assembly.
