An HSS beam connects to a wide flange column using L4x4x1/2 structural steel angles detailed for both flange and web framing conditions. The top and bottom angles are sized to the column width or depth minus specified clearances, with a maximum half-inch clearance maintained at the beam end. Fillet welds of five-sixteenth and one-quarter inch sizes secure the angles to both the column and the HSS beam on both sides and on three sides as indicated. The larger side of the HSS is oriented as noted unless otherwise specified.
