Steel stiffener plates are welded to each side of a wide-flange beam or column web using three-eighths-inch plates and one-quarter-inch fillet welds on each plate, with corners clipped to clear the k region. Continuity plates match the thickness of the connecting flange and are welded with complete joint penetration at the flange and five-sixteenths-inch welds at the web, incorporating a one-half-inch drilled hole and plate cope to clear the k region.
