A wide flange beam or channel connects to a hollow structural section column using a web plate and flange plate configuration. The web plate is sized per schedule 6/S1.04 with a minimum dimension of either two times the column thickness plus one-quarter inch or one inch. The flange plate thickness is specified as the greater of one-half inch minimum or the web plate thickness. Five-sixteenth inch fillet welds secure the plates to the column and structural members.
