The steel beam connects to the steel column web with a web plate equal to the beam web thickness plus one-eighth inch by four inches, secured by three seven-eighths inch diameter erection bolts. Five-sixteenth inch fillet welds join the web plate with one-inch returns. Complete joint penetration welds tie the top flange of the steel beam to the column, complemented by bottom flange welds and typical weld access holes per AISC 360 standards.
