Hollow structural section beams frame into the web of a structural steel hollow structural section column with a maximum one-half-inch gap. Top and bottom angles measuring L4x4x3/8 extend the column depth and attach with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Three-eighths-inch by three-inch plates weld to each side of the beam, paired with a three-eighths-inch plate across the column face where the width equals the column depth plus one inch. A typical one-inch clearance is maintained at the beam flanges. The connection is mirrored on each side of the column web.
