This moment connection joins a wide flange beam to a column using complete joint penetration welds with backgouging on both the top and bottom flanges. Full-depth continuity plates are installed on the near side and far side of the column web, provided only when specifically indicated on the structural plans. The beam-to-column angle may vary based on project requirements, and the top of steel elevation is referenced at the beam flange.
