A structural steel beam connects to a universal column web using a twelve millimeter cleat plate welded with an eight millimeter fillet weld all round. Two twenty-four millimeter Grade 8.8 bolts secure the beam web to the cleat plate in a friction grip connection. Ten millimeter column stiffeners are welded to the universal column with six millimeter fillet welds all round to resist web local yielding. The universal column and beam sizes are sized per plan.
