An eighth-inch galvanized steel strap measuring two and one-half inches wide is nailed to each face of the wall at pipe penetrations through wood top plates or sills. The strap is fastened with sixteen eight-gauge nails and maintains a one and one-half inch minimum clearance from the hole edge. Blocking and joists are installed per framing plans, with a splice plate located at each plate. Maximum unpermitted hole sizes are limited to one inch for two-by-four walls and two and one-half inches for two-by-six walls.
