An HSS 4x4x1/4 steel column is welded to a 10x10x3/4 base plate using a quarter-inch fillet weld and anchored to a concrete footing with four three-quarter-inch diameter anchor bolts. The base plate rests on a one-and-a-half-inch layer of non-shrink grout above a concrete pier and a three-foot-square by twelve-inch-deep concrete footing reinforced with three number four bars each way. The lower portion of the steel column extending through the concrete pier is specified to be covered with concrete.
