A steel column section is welded to the base plate using complete joint penetration welds specified as demand-critical welds at the flanges and web, incorporating multiple shear lug plates for lateral load transfer. One-eighth-inch thick shear lug plates are welded to the base plate with partial joint penetration welds. Grout holes are provided across the base plate assembly as required for foundation grouting. Anchor bolts are arranged around the perimeter of the base plate according to the structural schedule.
