An upper wide-flange column connects to a lower wide-flange column using a one-half-inch plate at the column flange matching the column width, extending two inches beyond the depth and width of the column below. Four three-quarter-inch-diameter A325 bolts at standard gauge secure the connection through the plate, with a thermal shim referenced per architectural drawings. Wide-flange beams frame into the assembly with the top of the beam coped as required for the column cap. Plates matching one-half the width of the column and matching the column flange thickness are welded to each side of the column with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides.
