A structural steel beam frames into a hollow structural section column with a Type C1 shear connection and stiffener plates welded to each side. Complete joint penetration welds are specified typically throughout the assembly. Stiffener plates are aligned with the HSS column below and welded on three sides. Additional stiffener plates are omitted from the drawing view for clarity.
