A horizontal brace connection occurs at a hollow structural section column and wide-flange beam intersection. A five-eighths inch thick gusset plate connects to the structural members using three one-inch diameter ASTM F3125 Grade A325-X bolts. Angles measuring three and a half by three by three-eighths inches are provided top and bottom, typically secured with four total one-inch diameter bolts. A two and a half inch knife plate connects into the wide-flange backing and gusset assembly with a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld on three sides. Brace alignment maintains standard clearances including a one-inch typical clearance and angular tolerances between thirty and sixty degrees.
