A secondary steel beam connects to the web of a primary girder using a bolted shear plate. Where a beam frames into one side only, a full height stiffener plate of one-half inch minimum thickness is added to the far side or the shear plate is extended the full depth of the girder with the flange chipped and ground as required. Stiffener plates are extended to match depth for deeper members as indicated. Bolt pitch is one and three-quarter inches at one inch diameter bolts, maintaining specified maximum and minimum clearances.
