Structural reinforcement methods for open-web steel joists supporting concentrated loads between fifty and three hundred pounds. When dimension X exceeds six inches, L1x1x1/8 angles are installed on each side of the joist web with one-eighth-inch typical fillet welds. Alternatively, a WT4x5 section is welded to the bottom chord using one-eighth-inch welds spaced at six inches typical. These reinforcements distribute suspended equipment or piping loads into the joist framing safely.
