A heavy steel column and brace connection is anchored to a reinforced concrete footing. Dual diagonal braces connect via gusset plates welded to the column assembly with complete joint penetration welds. The base plate rests on a two-inch layer of non-shrink grout, explicitly omitting leveling nuts in favor of shim plates. Four massive anchor bolts pass through the footing, fitted with four-inch square by one-and-a-half-inch Grade 50 plate washers at the base, and wrapped with electrical tape along the top twelve inches to prevent bonding. A W14x257 shear key is embedded within a twenty-by-twenty-inch blockout in the footing to transfer lateral loads into the concrete foundation.
