This moment connection joins a wide flange beam to a wide flange column using top and bottom flange plates measuring 1/2 inch by 8 inches by 9 1/2 inches. The beam web is connected to the column flange via a shear plate measuring 3/8 inch by 9 inches by 4 inches. Complete joint penetration welds secure the flange plates to the column, while 5/16 inch fillet welds connect the flange plates to the beam. The column is reinforced with 1/2 inch stiffener plates above and below the beam connection, as referenced in detail 6. Shims are provided at the top or bottom flange plates as required to ensure proper fit-up.
