A steel beam connects to a steel column as part of a lateral frame moment connection. The top flange features a complete joint penetration weld with a standard weld access hole detailed per AISC 360. A fifty ksi web plate sized to the beam web thickness plus one-eighth inch by four inches is connected using three seven-eighths inch diameter erection bolts. Fillet welds measuring five-sixteenths inch with one-inch returns secure the connection plates to the framing members.
