An HSS6x4x1/4 steel column bears on a concrete column via a 1/2-inch by 10-inch by 1'-0" embed plate secured with six 1/2-inch diameter by 8-inch heavy stud anchors, welded with a 1/4-inch fillet weld. A 4-inch diameter standard pipe passes through the assembly, sized per architectural plans. A 1/2-inch cap plate tops the lower member, supported by L2x2x1/4 bearing angles with two 1/4-inch stiffener plates aligned to the column edge. An L4x4x1/4 bearing angle is provided at similar conditions, with 3/16-inch fillet welds securing the components.
